How to Wear Over the Knee Boots

Posted on: August 20, 2011

Wearing over the knee boots have become popular and trendy over recent years. Simply because we see our favorite celebrities sporting them like, Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Lindsay Lohan and Eva Mendez. We also see the hottest fashion models ripping the runway, rocking the hottest outfits pairing them with knee-high boots. Most girls/women are turned off by knee high boots because they are high, sexy and considered provocative.

We all have that “Julia Roberts” moment when we see these boots…one thing comes to mind, “These are hooker, boots” Not anymore, times have certainly changed and retailers are sure to stock their selves with the latest color, and style of knee-high boots! Knee-high boots are perfect for cold winters ,they can be paired with the perfect spring/summer dress or with your favorite skinny jeans and if you’re a daring chica you can pair your favorite style of over-the-heel boots with some nice casual shorts, twill or trouser type shorts.

Wearing knee-high boots it’s a must you have pose, and be fashion conscious You’ll ride a very thin line between conservative and “hookerish” or just plain foolish when pairing your outfit with these boots. These over-the-knee boots aren’t for everyone. Taller women can get away with wearing over-the-knee boots simply because petite women who choose to wear these boots it tends to make their silhouette seem as if their shorter.

Step 1: Be Fashion forward!

Decide your boot style, are you a slouched, flat-footed, stiletto-heeled, wedges, fabric, pointed -toe or round toe over-the-heel loving girl? What outfit are you planning on pairing with your boot choice for the day or evening? Keep in mind pairing over-the-knee boots with 70’s spandex are a big “No, No” this will only make you look like something you don’t want to look like as stated before. Don’t pair these boots with boot-cut jeans, boyfriend jeans, or wide leg trousers. Simply because skinny jeans are the only jean that will fit inside your boot. Over-the-knee boots aren’t appropriate for every occasion. Pairing these boots with slim fitted trousers and the flat foot style rather than stiletto heeled style would be a better fit for a job interview. Fashionistas across the globe are pairing over-the-heel boots with almost everything from dresses, skinny jeans, and slim fitting trousers. When finding your special boot keep in mind, you’re not going to wear these shoes everyday. You don’t want to go bankrupt on a pair of boots you’ll only wear once, and obviously you’re not sure if you’re going to like, are you going to be comfortable walking in these boots or simply just the style itself?

Step 2: Which boot will you wear?

I’ll break down which boot is appropriate for which setting. Stiletto Style-Is best paired with a dress or your favorite skinny jeans.

Slouch Style-Is best paired with a simple skinny jean with a plain shirt with a blazer, accessories to match.

Flat-foot Style-Is also best paired with a simple skinny jean. But also looks great with a casual pair of shorts

If you dare to wear a pair of stiletto style over-the-heel boot you’ll need a ton of confidence. This style boot screams, style-savvy and if you lack self confidence, leave these boots in the store and walk away…their definitely not for you. Personally, I own a pair of stiletto style boots bought as a gift because I know for facts I’d never spend my money on something I wasn’t comfortable or confident wearing. I’ll stick to the flat or slouch style boot. Black and browns are your best choice. With these conservative colors you can pull your look off with almost anything . I’ll stress this issue, I repeat no, spandex of any sort. Mini-skirts, patent leather tights, spandex shorts. If you do decide to wear some sort of spandex, or shiny bottoms match your top with something subtle like a basic sleeves tank.

Step 3:Accessories, accessories and more accessories!

Complete your look with beautiful accessories! There isn’t anyone I know who doesn’t want to stand out in the crowd and be a fashionista. You can never go wrong with accessories, but pairing just “anything” with any outfit will make your look clash making the look you’re trying to achieve look tacky. A simple necklace and bangle will complete your look. If you choose to opt out a necklace you can always pair your outfit with large earrings. Hoop and chandelier earrings are the hottest accessories at the moment. This will bring your look together, both won’t work. Be conscious of the color choices, the best way of knowing if your colors are matching find a simple color wheel and choose the colors that compliments each other and your skin tone as well. Not everything color is going to look good on you! Keep your silhouette long and lean by pairing with a tunic or long boyfriend jacket that ends just below your butt. Cinch your waist with a skinny and belt. Create a funky style by adding texture and richness like suede, chunky knits, and leather. Just as a reminder, your accessories should always compliment your outfit.
